The Students’ Union at Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s (SUÂ鶹´«Ã½) award-winning radio station, Nerve Radio, picked up three awards at the 2024 Student Radio Awards (SRA).Â
The awards, hosted at the O2 Indigo in London, is an annual celebration to recognise the achievements in the student radio and audio community. Â
Nerve Radio presenters Hannah Clubley and Kitty Nixon were awarded Gold for ‘Best Interview’ after they exclusively interviewed chart-topping artist Badger at the Student Union’s annual festival, SUÂ鶹´«Ã½ Summer Ball, in June this year.Â
Hannah, who recently graduated from Â鶹´«Ã½Â with a degree in Television Production, is now studying for her Master’s in Journalism here. She said: “Nerve Radio has been such an important part of my university experience. It’s how I found my love for interviewing, and I haven’t stopped since!
“I am over the moon to have won a Gold award for the Best Interview at this year’s Student Radio Awards. Interviewing Badger was one of the best experiences which Kitty and I worked so hard on. It means the absolute world to us both to have gained this recognition from the judging panel, which is formed by experts across the media industry.â€

Nerve Radio were awarded Silver for ‘Best Event Programming’ for an event they organised at the Students’ Union’s on-campus venue, Dylan’s Kitchen & Bar, in February. The team hosted a free gig for Â鶹´«Ã½ students with live performances from local bands Galaxy Thief and LJ & Franks, whilst broadcasting the event live on FM radio across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. Â
The station was also awarded Silver for ‘Best Multiplatform Initiative’ for their Round the Clock Radio Challenge, held in June. Nerve Radio hosted a 24-hour broadcast from their studio based in the Students’ Union building on Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Talbot Campus, where they were joined by presenters from other student radio stations across the south to raise money for Mind, The Teenage Cancer Trust, The Journey of a Lifetime Trust and Epilepsy Action.Â
More than 200 students and industry guests attended the awards the ceremony, including some of the biggest names in broadcast talent and senior management from public, commercial and independent networks, agencies, and companies around the UK.Â

This has been another incredible achievement for our student-led radio station, and we’re so pleased to see them adding more awards to their trophy cabinet!Â
“The aim of Nerve Radio is to give our students the space to host their own radio shows, try out new ideas and develop their skills. We’ve seen many of our Nerve alumni secure jobs within the industry, and we have no doubt this legacy will continue. Â
